Patterns and Processes of Arthropod community succession after fire

چکیده
Our general purpose was to determine whether arthropod communities in midsuccessional habitat are qualitatively different from those in mature habitat. Specifically, we investigated whether foraging guild structure, abundance, and diversity differ in relation to fire history and whether there is evidence of failure in community recovery after a fire. Lastly, we compared our results for the entire arthropod community to those for just the Diptera, a highly volant insect order within which all guilds are represented.

Shifting Mosaics in Semi-Steppe Rangelands Driven by Interactive Effect of Human Made Disturbances
Semi-steppe rangelands are a complex, highly dynamic and often multi-layered mosaic of grassland, shrubland, and intermediate communities. A few recent studies have explicitly or implicitly developed synthetic hypotheses about how interactive effects of human made disturbances initiate dynamic changes in plant community composition to cause a shifting mosaic of vegetation pattern across the lan...

متن کاملDiptera Community Composition and Succession Following Habitat Disturbance by Wildfire
Introduction Both biogeographic (for example, latitude) and local (for example, soil) processes determine composition and succession of biotic communities. Postfire succession of vegetation has been studied intensively in chaparral and coastal sage scrub. Fewer studies have examined postfire succession of animals, even though fires can drastically alter their abundance and diversity (Ahlgren an...
متن کاملFire Severity Filters Regeneration Traits to Shape Community Assembly in Alaska’s Boreal Forest
Disturbance can both initiate and shape patterns of secondary succession by affecting processes of community assembly. Thus, understanding assembly rules is a key element of predicting ecological responses to changing disturbance regimes. We measured the composition and trait characteristics of plant communities early after widespread wildfires in Alaska to assess how variations in disturbance ...
متن کاملSuccession in the Kaimaumau gumland, Northland, New Zealand, following fire
The vegetation recovery at Kaimaumau gumland was monitored in seven permanent plots from 1988 to 1999 following a large fire in 1988 in order to determine rates and patterns of vegetation recovery. A succession profile for the key vegetation types that are currently developing is suggested. Schoenus brevifolius was the first species to colonise from rhizomes after the fire, and has remained the...
